SharePoint Custom List Content Types and Datasheet View

I got the following error message while editing items in a SharePoint custom list with multiple content types:

After some investigation, I found that while adding columns to the list, it was set to be required. Later on, I decided to use one list to manage two content types and updated the status column of the fields to be included in the content type to required, optional, or hidden. This, however, does not update the additional column settings of the field and cause error in the datasheet view that is mentioned above. To resolve this error, I follwed these steps:

  1. Disable content type management from "Advanced Settings" in the list settings. Don't worry, this will not delete your content types :-)

  2. Select "No" in "Require that this column contains information" property of the list column.

Note: This needs to be done for all the columns including the "Title" column because a field should be made required on the content type level and not on the list level if multiple content types are being used.

  3. Enable the management of content type option in advanced settings.
